PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
